Regulations

Following are the rules and specifications for the 2010 Billy Cart Grand Prix.

Junior Category

  • The Billy Cart must be constructed of wood and wood only apart from axles, bolts and wheels/tires

  • The Steering can be made of metal

  • The Push Bar maybe made of metal

  • A working brake system is required, but method of application is free

  • The wheels are required to be less than 250mm in diameter and can be either solid or pneumatic

  • The wheelbase of the Billy Cart must be less than 1200mm with a body overhang less than 300mm.

  • The track (width) of the Billy Cart is to be less than 800mm

  • Regulation for the attire of the driver and the pushers are compulsory

  • These rules can be found in The Safety Manual.  

Open Category

  • The material used in the construction of the Billy Cart is open

  • The Push Bar construction is open

  • A working brake system is required, but method of application is free

  • The wheels are open, however if spocked they must be shrouded

  • There is no set length for the Billy Cart

  • The width of the Billy Cart must be less than 1200mm

  • Regulations for the attire of the driver and the pushers are compulsory

  • These rules can be found in The Safety Manual.

  • Time deductions to be enforced by the second C/O official for any team that “lets go” of their Cart and “flings” it during a changeover.

Safety

The Billy Cart Grand Prix events have been designed for any community body to be involved in. It is vital then that the events are held with the safety of the competitors, spectators and officials as the highest priority. Due to the need for safety to be the highest priority the following will be enforced.

Numbers of those on the track

  • A maximum of 4 Carts can compete on track in each race.

  • Each team will be assigned a team number within their category. For example Junior Category Team 1, Junior Category Team 2, Junior Category Team 3 etc.

  • The team number will determine the order in which teams run the one lap Leader Dash. For example Junior Category Team 1 followed by Junior Category Team 2 etc.

  • Heats for the Billy Cart Grand Prix will be predetermined with Teams 1-6 in Heat 1, Teams 6-12 in Heat 2 etc for each category. The starting order within each Heat will be determined by each teams lap time in the Lygon One Lap Dash with the fastest time first on the grid, second fastest on position 2 etc.

 

 

The Driver

The Driver MUST at all times wear the following:

  • Helmet. The helmet is required to be of road-approved standards for a pushbike

  • Gloves

  • Strong, sturdy shoes

  • Long sleeve shirt and long pants (recommended)

  • Goggles to protect eyes.

The Billy Cart Pushers

The Billy Cart Pushers must at all times wear the following:

  • Bicycle helmet

  • Gloves S

  • Strong sturdy shoes

  • Gloves are recommended.

BILLY CART PUSHERS MUST BE IN CONTACT WITH THE CART AT ALL TIMES: FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN A STOP/GO PENALTY OR THEIR TIME DISALLOWED.
 
Changing Billy Cart Pushers

  • Each team may change the Billy Cart Pushers on three occasions within a lap

  • The changes are to be made only in the designated areas

  • If a change is made outside of these areas a "Stop Go" penalty will apply. The Billy Cart will come to a complete stop before continuing in the race.

Scrutineering
Scrutineering will be held at 10:45 am, 28 February. Each cart and Pusher will be checked to see whether it complies with the regulations.

  • Carts that do not comply with the regulations will be removed from the event

  • All Billy Carts that have spoked wheels must have them enclosed (shrouded).

ALL BILLY CART PUSHERS WILL NEED TO PRESENT THEMSELVES AND THEIR SAFETY EQUIPMENT TO THE SCRUTINEERS TO RECEIVE A O.K. STICKER.
