Event History

In 1999 the concept to organise a community event was formulated. This community event was to be unique in that it promoted teamwork, initiative, coordination of resources, physical activity & development of fitness, use of skills in building and most of all a fun day for all those involved.

When considering all of these elements and what was uniquely Australian, a Billy Cart Grand Prix (Race) was born. A circuit around Lilydale Adventist Academy was chosen and support was received from Sanitarium and Leader Newspapers.

Two events were to be held in the four categories. These categories were Years 5/6, Years 7/8, 9/10, 11/12. Teams of nine were to push a Billy Cart around a 500 metre track in relay.

The first event, the Leader Newspaper Dash, involved a one lap dash around the 500 metre circuit. The Weet-bix Billy Cart Grand Prix was a set number of laps around the circuit where all participants in each category were to be on the course.
